Tutorial 1: Business Intelligence Solutions with Pentaho Community

Speaker: Dimas C. Nascimento

Abstract: Organizations are all looking to increase revenue, lower expenses, and improve profitability by improving efficiency and effectiveness in their business processes and overall performance. This tutorial aims to discuss the importance and requirements for the acquisition of reliable information to support management decisions on organizations of all segments. Traditional Business Intelligence (BI) tools are costly, complex and usually fail on enabling enterprises to achieve the sought benefits in efficiency and effectiveness. In order to solve this problem, it is illustrated how it is possible to implement Business Intelligence solutions using Pentaho, a solution-oriented BI platform that integrates open source components and open standards with a process-driven engine. The BI solutions using Pentaho are accomplished in five steps: first, by implementing the Data Warehousing process; second, by creating OLAP schemas; third, by creating analytical queries; fourth, by creating presentations; and fifth, by diffusing the presentations.

Presentation: 5 October, 8:30 - 16:00
